Hello and happy new-year to you one and all!! Yes yes; you are correct in your thinking and I am well aware that we are over half way through the first month in the year. There is a good inspirational reason for that too! Read on to find out more….
How many of you have taken up with the notion of New Year resolutions? The idea that it’s now a new year and the time to stop doing something, giving up something else or to lose weight?
How many of you have decided that enough is enough and you’re perhaps going to give up certain foods, that you’re going to try and get fit and, dare I say, have a dry January? I am guessing there are a few nodding heads and shrugs of the shoulders, maybe the odd wince too? How many of you have enjoyed the process and have continued? Perhaps you’re looking round to see if I am actually sat on your shoulder watching?
How many of you have continued and are triumphant at giving up, going dry and denying yourselves? How many of you have successes in maintaining the changes you want? How many of you have thought “Ahhh nuts, I failed and will try again another time, maybe next January, again?”
Well I am here to offer a helping hand and make a few subtle changes. Here are my reusable thoughts which I offer freely and for you to take away and digest at your leisure.
Isn’t the term “I am giving up say, chocolate” a tad dramatic and negative if not sad? Doesn’t the term ‘Dry January’ leave you parched? How about “stop eating that” or what about “I am going to try to do”, which incidentally is a pet hate of mine! I will come to that term, “try” later.
I perceive all those terms as negatives and lacking any joy or inspiration at all. Don’t you? Let’s look closely at these disheartening and discouraging words again in isolation:
STOP, GIVING UP, DRY, and TRY.
What do you think? Do you feel inspired, healthy, keen and full drive? I know re-reading those words that I certainly don’t.
Let’s readdress the balance making the words, your own needs and wants come to fruition figuratively speaking and help you make the changes you now want. Perhaps also add some affirmations that are in the here and now?
How about instead of “I am dieting and can never eat that again” or “I am giving up that forever” say; “I am changing the way I eat now” or “I am eating healthily” or “I now choose to love my body an eat good things”. Do you see? Imagine being free and knowing you’re not giving anything up, simply eating correctly. Having a little bit of what you fancy now and then because you want; now you’re in control. “I chose to be in control and will make the right choices” You’re making changes, healthy changes that you can sustain for the rest of your life. Never try; do! We don’t try to cross a road, you simply make your mind up and cross that road. You choose to because you want to and can. Also inevitably by thinking you give something up makes you want it more and we all know where that leads every New Year don’t we? Whilst we’re on that subject why wait a whole year to be the person you want to be? Why hang about and delay the positive changes that will makes you content and healthy?
Every moment is fresh and new, full of opportunity. Whilst you have been reading this new opportunity and fresh moments are there for the taking; there for you, now and always.
“I wake up with a clear head after a night out” or “I expect my first drink of the year in February will be a merry one” or “I am looking forward to a glass of fizz in February!” See what I did again? It’s catchy isn’t it? Have a go yourself and perhaps make your own affirmations too.
Every moment is yours; it’s new, full of potential and ambition. Be mindful and love what you do and yourself. Be who you want to be, reinvent yourself with positive, healthy changes because you know you can and you want to!! Imagine how great you will feel!
Have a lovely day all and if you need some help you know how to contact me. Thank you.
